Forget cellphone cameras — future interfaces and the future web will be interactive projections. It could also mean the ultimate “convergence” of devices. For example, if the projection is simulating hardware — such as buttons on your cellphone or a keyboard or a screen — you could project multiple device interfaces from just one device, the projector.
It’s what Pranav Mistry from MIT’s Medialab calls the Sixth Sense prototype and it’s fascinating. The device is comprised of a pocket projector, a mirror and a camera. At this stage it’s bulky and crude, but imagine when the thing is small enough to fit on your glasses or is just clipped to your pocket. The device is essentially a wearable gestural interface that augments the physical world around us with digital information. The wearer uses natural hand gestures to interact with that information. Wow.. mindblowing technology.. I can already see a number of functions for something like this in the teaching/lecturing profession.
Not to mention ad agencies going to pitch.. leave the laptop at home.. just make sure the content is on a server somewhere..
On the flipside it looks a bit much to “take in” for Joe Soap, whom I believe is the target market.
And this bloody currency of ours will ensure that only us hyperconnecteds have access to this sort of tech for the first 10 years after it coming to market.
Still.. mindblowing
